Hair loss terms glossary
These are the terms that are used to described hair loss and hair replacement. these terms may be confusing and you may not understand the terminology so we included them in our glossary section
- Alopecia - medical term for baldness
- Androgenic Alopecia - genetics and hereditary patterns of baldness
- Baby Hair - part of a hair peiece that makes the hair look real
- Bonding -using an adhesive to attach the hair piece to you scalp
- Chemotherapy - the treatment of cancers and involves highly toxic chemicals and drugs which make complete hair loss because of loss of non cancer cells
- Clips - non adhesive hair piece that stay on by a hair clip
- Crown - the circle in the back of a a persons head where baldness usually first appears.
- Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) - The hormone that effects hair loss in men
- Donor Area - scalp area above the ears and at the back of the head
- Fusion - An attachment method for hair replacement also known as bonding
- Grafting - moving sections of your hair around to replace bald spots.
- Hair transplant - A surgical hair procedure that moves hair of the scalp to a balding area of scalp.
- Human Hair -is real people hair being used to work on hair pieces and wigs
- Keratin - Protein need to maintain hair and nails
- Menopause - happen in woman when their ovaries permanently stop secreting estrogen
- Recipient area - The bald area of the scalp on which hair sections can be surgically added from a donor's hair.
- Synthetic Hair - hair that is not human hair that is main of material that is suppose to look like real hair
